Hot Springs: The history of Lake Akan Hot Springs is fairly old, as when the area was first surveyed in 1858 by Takeshirou Matsuura, the indigenous Ainu natives had already been using it for some time. Hot springs in the area are simple thermal hydrogen sulphide springs ranging in temperature from 38-85C are said to be therapeutic for nerve pain and arthritis. As well, in addition to the hot springs and open air baths of Lake Akan, visitors can enjoy a variety of hand, foot, and other baths.
Hand Baths: A teyu is a hot spring bath for the hands! Here in the “Marimo no Sato Shopping Area,” the birthplace of Akan Hot Springs, visitors can enjoy 3 separate hand baths. Feel free to dip your hands in and soak away the cares of your journey.(no charge)

Foot Baths: An ashiyu is a hot spring bath for the feet, and just what the doctor ordered when in need of a break from walking! Simply dip your feet in and let the weariness of your travels melt away. (no charge)
